Minimum Wage for Hypocrites!

The Federal Minimum wage has remained at $5.15/hour for the past nine years--that's $10,700 for a fulltime worker--which the majority of minimum wage earners are, and most are also over the age of 25.
This means that most workers can not afford housing-- a quick survey of rental units (non-senior housing) finds most apartments rent from $590 up on both coasts; the cheapest apartment on the Gulf Coast was $350, and in Iowa it was $540. Where are these workers supposed to live?

In those same nine years Congress has voted itself over $30,000 in raises including $3,300 this year (see http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/06/13/AR2006061301123.html for the story) --that means that they are making $168,000 per year. They probably can afford housing.

While states may raise minimum wage, many have not. So until everyone has a m
livable wage, I say: LINK CONGRESS' WAGES TO MINIMUM WAGE OR NO MORE RAISES FOR HYPOCRITES!

p.s. The President makes $400,000/year and gets his housing for free....

Comments:
there's a nice solution to this. it's called using the socialist policies available to the public, to get through college for free (or just pay the INSANE price of a thousand or so dollars per semester for CC, in order to avoid having to tell your children that you're managing a bunch of high school dropouts as Taco Bell.

the system isn't the problem. you raise minimum wage more and you'll see people getting booted left and right. why? the wages aren't made to suit people's needs-- they are there to suit what people deserve for things like cleaning dishes at a restaurant in comparison to someone that worked hard, went to school, and makes a nice salary with good benefits.

please tell us where people are constitutionally guaranteed enough money to stay afloat?

show us. the simple truth is that government already controls too much when it comes to all of these "benefits" that people fall into for doing n-o-t-h-i-n-g.
